Master stones

An accurate color grade is obtained by comparing the diamond against a series of pre-graded color comparison stones, known as "master stones".  A set of good master stones should each be at a minimum of 0.5 ct, have good proportions, be of a yellowish tint, with none, or negligible, fluorescence, have a faceted or polished girdle and contain no colored, black or otherwise disturbing inclusions.
